The American Woodcock, Scolopax minor, is a comical bird in its looks and behavior, and is also known as the Timberdoodle. I’ve been lucky to observe this species in the wild while visiting Ohio where I saw it displaying on the forest floor along the shore of Lake Erie.
This species is listed as ‘Least Concern’ since it is widespread and thanks to declines in historic hunting pressure.
I created this piece for an interpretive panel for Daniel Boone State Forest in Kentucky.
